Project Description
This project involves the design of a kindergarten in Shandong, China, which aims to meet the client’s requirements for a curriculum that seamlessly integrates indoor, outdoor, and semi-outdoor spaces. The overarching objective is to create a cohesive architectural structure that considers the entire site as a unified entity. The design concept draws inspiration from the imaginative interpretations and abstract qualities of children.

The central feature of the design is a scribbled doodling-like slab that stretches across the site, harmoniously blending with the surrounding terrain. The slab’s curves form diverse spaces, some of which are in direct contact with the ground, while others are elevated to allow adult passage. The interior spaces are enclosed with glass, allowing for transparency and visual connection, while a combination of natural and man-made elements, such as trees and plants, contribute to the captivating environment.

Through the overlapping of scales and shapes, a singular large scenery is formed, providing an expansive backdrop for children’s actions and thoughts to unfold freely. This kindergarten fosters limitless imagination within a context that celebrates spontaneity and the unconscious.
