Project Description
The project brief was to construct a temporary bamboo outhouse in Alibaug, offering a picturesque view of an adjoining agricultural plot. This structure intends to provide suitable accommodation for the farmers working on the plot, along with a packaging unit. The construction materials predominantly include bamboo, wood, and mud, embracing a sustainable approach.

The outhouse is designed to rest on a wooden platform supported by black basalt stub columns, creating an elevated structure. The primary structural framework is composed of bamboo (bambusa balcooa), complemented by wattle and daub panels for the walls. Initially, the roof incorporated a bamboo pitch with a thatch covering; however, for fire safety reasons, this was later replaced with Mangalore tiles to mitigate the risk of fire.

This bamboo outhouse serves as a prototype model for the accommodation and packaging unit module. Subsequently, additional accommodation units will be replicated on-site, expanding the project’s scope and impact. Through this endeavor, we aim to demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of sustainable construction methods while providing practical facilities for the local farming community.
