Project Description
‘Living Waters – Pune’ is a documentary movie created by two graduate students from Cornell and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) exploring the water crisis in Pune, India. They are investigating the impact of large-scale water infrastructure on groundwater levels and the need for equitable water access for all citizens, regardless of caste and class. The film focuses on marginalized communities impacted by the water crisis and introduces decentralized water management techniques that have been around for centuries but are now in decline.

The documentary aims to advocate for the revival and protection of traditional water systems to ensure long-term sustainability and create awareness of the water crisis issue. It proposes a solution with a new organization - Water Corps, which aims to engage civilians and youth in the process of water restoration. ‘Living Waters – Pune’ is edited as an experimental documentary, shot in a poetic style, capturing the spaces, people, and their relationship with water.
