Project Description

The Cleveland Hough Community Neighborhood is set to undergo a transformative project aimed at creating a vibrant, community-centric park. This initiative is based on an extensive ideation workshop, where ideas and design principles were gathered to ensure the park aligns with the neighborhood’s needs. By retaining essential features such as the Amphitheatre and Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center, the design places a strong emphasis on enhancing the neighborhood’s social character and fostering connectivity among residents.

The aspirational master plan for the park merges the Thurgood Recreation Center Open Space and Hough Community Green Space, with development taking place incrementally to accommodate community feedback and grant limitations. Technical aspects of the project include the implementation of safety-focused and energy-efficient lighting, the incorporation of native plants for naturalization purposes, and the installation of wayfinding signage to enhance pedestrian efficiency.

Additionally, the project proposes the introduction of mixed-use development in vacant parcels near the park, with the aim of activating the neighborhood and attracting further investment. This comprehensive community-driven park and revitalization effort aims to establish a dynamic space that not only caters to the community’s diverse needs but also fosters connectivity, social engagement, and incremental growth.
